IBRAM X. KENDI is one of America’s foremost historians and leading antiracist voices. He is a National Book Award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author and is currently the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and the Founding Director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research. Kendi is a contributor writer at The Atlantic and a CBS News correspondent. His 2019 book HOW TO BE AN ANTIRACIST was described by the New York Times as “the most courageous book to date on the problem of race in the Western mind.” His next book, BE ANTIRACIST: A GUIDED JOURNAL FOR AWARENESS, REFLECTION, AND ACTION, is available for pre-order and will be published on October 6, 2020.

The Friends of the Central Library (FOCL) is a nonprofit group that supports the Central Library, which is the hub of the Onondaga County Public Library system and includes city branches and suburban libraries.  By providing funds to the Library System through its Gifford Author Series, FOCL helps to ensure that everyone in our community has free access to libraries and literacy and access to the dialogues and conversations that are vital to changing systems that are inequitable.

This event is hosted by the Friends of the Central Library (FOCL) and presented by Syracuse University, with sponsorship from The Central New York Community Foundation, The Gifford Foundation, and WCNY. Donations are encouraged to support the Library.
